Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 7) — Camelle Mercado of the Philippines was hailed as the new Miss United Continents, making her the second Filipina to win the crown.
Mercado bagged the title during pageant ceremonies in Ecuador on Saturday (Sunday Philippine time).
The feat came six years after Jeslyn Santos captured the first Miss United Continents crown in 2016.
Mercado bested 24 other entries in the contest usually dominated by Latin American countries.
Initially called the Miss American Continent, the pageant only welcomed participants from countries in North, Central, and South America. But after gaining wide international reception, organizers expanded the competition worldwide and renamed it Miss United Continents.
