Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 3) — The newly appointed chairperson of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has retained Rex Laudiangco as the poll body’s acting spokesperson.
“You are to retain your designation as Acting Spokesperson of this Commission effective immediately,” the memorandum dated August 3 and signed by new Comelec Chairperson George Garcia read.
Laudiangco was first designated by former Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan in May, three days before the general elections.
He replaced James Jimenez who was relieved from his post in the wake of the controversy over the cancellation of Comelec’s last presidential and vice presidential debates back in April.
In June, then acting Comelec chairman Socorro Inting retained Laudiangco to his post.
Garcia was appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. as the commission’s chairperson in a letter dated July 22 but received by the Commission on Appointments (CA) on Monday.
