Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 29) — The country recorded 19,262 new COVID-19 cases from Aug. 22 to 28, the Department of Health (DOH) said in its latest weekly bulletin.

The DOH said the latest tally reflects a 19% decrease from the previous week, with a daily average of 2,752 new infections.

The department also said there were 316 deaths verified, of which 94 patients succumbed between Aug. 15 and Aug. 28.

There were 110 new critical cases recorded, while 807 patients with critical infections are currently admitted to hospitals.

Latest data showed more than 72.4 million Filipinos have completed their primary dose of COVID-19 vaccine, which is 92.80% of the total target population. Vaccination among the elderly is at 78.10%, the DOH noted.

Over 17.8 million individuals have received their additional COVID-19 shot, it added.

The OCTA Research group projects less than 1,000 daily COVID-19 infections in the country by mid-September as indicators, like the seven-day average of new cases and reproduction number, decline.

The DOH, however, sees the daily cases spiking to 9,000 by end of September up to October as more students head back to their physical classrooms.
