Most COVID-19 admitted patients are unvaccinated, without booster — Lung Center

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 2) — Most COVID-19 patients admitted at the Lung Center of the Philippines are unvaccinated or those who have yet to complete their booster shots, the hospital’s overall chair said on Tuesday.

Dr. Randy Castillo told CNN Philippines’ Newsroom Ngayon that COVID-19 patients often only show mild symptoms despite the recent surge in cases but most who need to be admitted have not completed their vaccination doses.

[Translation: We noticed that most of the patients admitted are unvaccinated or those who did not receive a booster shot. We do see the improvement in numbers when patients have received complete vaccine doses, including boosters.]

Castillo also noted that the hospital recently lowered the number of beds allotted to COVID-19 patients as most cases are not severe.

The Department of Health earlier estimated there may be over 19,000 COVID-19 cases daily by August 31 as infections continuously increase in the country.
