Comelec registers nearly 3M new voters for 2022 barangay, SK elections

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 26) – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) tallied nearly three million new registered voters for the 2022 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections set in December.

Based on the final tally released on Monday by Comelec acting spokesperson Atty. Rex Laudiangco, a total of 2,936,979 individuals signed up as new registered voters during the July 4 to 23 voter registration period.

Of the newly registered voters, over 1.8 million are aged 15 to 17.

Around 963,418 new voter registrants are at the 18 to 30 years old age bracket, while the remaining 158,654 are aged 31 years old and above.

The poll body also received almost 523,000 applications for transfer of voting records from other cities or municipalities during the 18-day registration period.

Overall, the Comelec processed more than 3.9 million voting-related applications during the period. This includes other transfer-related requests, reactivation, and correction of entries.

The new voters will be included in the over 65.7 million Filipinos who are already registered to vote for the upcoming barangay and SK elections set on Dec. 5.
