Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 22) — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. ordered a review of the state of calamity proclamation due to COVID-19 which will end in September, an official said on Friday.

Health officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said ending the state of calamity would affect the supply and use of COVID-19 vaccines and medications to treat the virus, as it would render invalid the emergency use authorization and compassionate special permits issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The country’s new single-day COVID-19 case count jumped to 3,389.

The FDA earlier asked vaccine manufacturers if they are ready to register their products for commercial use to make sure supply is enough should the status be lifted.

They need to secure a certificate of product registration, which requires them to finish phase 4 of their clinical trials, a requirement currently waived.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of calamity due to the pandemic in March 2020. This was extended twice and is valid until September 12.
