
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 19) — Singapore President Halimah Yacob has congratulated former senator Bongbong Marcos Jr. ahead of his expected win in the presidential elections.
“On behalf of the people of the Republic of Singapore, I warmly congratulate you on your electoral success,” said Yacob in a statement on Thursday.
The Singapore leader also invited Marcos to a state visit, saying she looks forward to strengthening the friendship between Singapore and the Philippines.
“I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to make a State Visit to Singapore,” Yacob said. “I wish you every success in steering the Philippines to greater heights.”
Congress will start the canvassing of votes for president and vice president on May 24. Marcos is ahead with more than 31 million votes.
