PH dancesport team opens Vietnam SEAG campaign with six medals

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 15) – The Philippine dancesport team reaped medals in all six events staged in the first day of dancesport competition in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at the Nha Thi Dau Long Bien Hall in Vietnam.

The pair of Stephanie Sabalo and Michael Angelo Marquez clinched the lone gold medal in Cha-Cha, which Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Cañeda ruled in 2019.

The Sabalo-Marquez tandem also collected silver medals in the Jive and All Five Dances, two events ruled by host nation Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the duo of Aunzo and Cañeda won a silver in Samba and a bronze medal each in Rumba and Paso Doble.

Aunzo and Cañeda conceded their crown in Samba and Rumba to the hometown bets. They also failed to defend the country’s gold medal in Paso Doble, topped by Sabalo and Marquez in 2019.

The pair of Sean Aranar and Ana Nualla and the partnership of Mark Jayson Gayon and Mary Joy Renigen will vie for medals in the continuation of the two-day dancesport competition on Monday.
