Ochoa, Ramirez deliver golds, Peña gets silver for PH in jiu-jitsu

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 14) – Three jiu-jitsu fighters delivered additional gold medals for the Philippines in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Saturday.

The matches were held at the Dan Phuong Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Meggie Ochoa and Annie Ramirez duplicated their gold medal victories in 2019, but clinching the top prize in heavier weight divisions.

From the 45kg division three years ago, Ochoa fought in the 48kg category and beat hometown bet Minh Duong Thi Thanh in the finals.

Ramirez, the other triumphant fighter, edged Thailand’s Orapa Senatham for the gold in the 62kg division. She copped the same medal in the 55kg division three years ago.

Meanwhile, Carlo Peña achieved a silver medal finish in the men’s 62kg division after he lost to eventual gold medalist Suwijak Kuntong of Thailand in the finals.

The 31st SEA Games jiu-jitsu competitions will culminate on Sunday with Jolly Co, Jan Cortez, and Marc Lim eyed as strong contenders to win medals for the country.
