Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 9) — Four alleged members of a communist terrorist group were killed in a military operation in South Cotabato Friday evening, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command reported.

In a statement on Saturday, the AFP said troops were monitoring the Yunit Milisya group in the area and organized a checkpoint. The agency claimed that the individuals, who were onboard motorcycles, fired at the officers, which resulted in a gunfight.

The Western Mindanao Command said four pistols, improvised explosive devices, and communication equipment were retrieved from the slain individuals.
