Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 23) – Far Eastern University Tamaraws routed the University of the East Red Warriors, 91-61, to notch their second straight win in the UAAP Season 84 Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Five Tamaraws finished with double-digit scoring production, led by Bryan Sajonia who brought out his best game this season with 17 points.
Xyrus Torres fired four triples in the contest, while Patrick Sleat and RJ Abarrientos added 12 markers each for the now 5-6 FEU side.
The Tamaraws displayed their well-balanced team attack early in the first quarter with a 24-7 spurt, a sign of a blowout by the Morayta-based cagers.
FEU’s lead swelled to 27 points by halftime, larger than the 26 total points scored by UE in the first 20 minutes of action.
The still winless Red Warriors – who dropped to 0-11 – could not solve the FEU puzzle in the second half as the Tamaraws continued to pounce on their opponents by tallying a lead as high as 39 points.
The Olsen Racela-mentored FEU squad dominated UE in all ends of the floor, in total field goal shooting (49% vs. 33%), rebounds (59-27), assists (28-15), second chance points (19-1), and starters points (32-13).
Kyle Paranada led the Red Warriors with 15 points, while Kris Pagsanjan contributed 10 in their team’s worst loss of the season.
FEU seeks to win their third straight game against the third running De La Salle University on Tuesday at 10 a.m., while UE will face second placer University of the Philippines at the 12:30 p.m. match.
