Kaya-Iloilo blanks ADT with four goals

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 20) – Reigning Copa Paulino Alcantara titlists Kaya-Iloilo FC asserted their might over the Azkals Development Team, 4-0, in the rematch of last year’s tournament final at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite on Wednesday.

Kaya-Iloilo now leads the league table with 10 points as they notched their third win in four games while ADT hangs in third place with four points with a 1-1-2 win-loss-draw record.

Throughout the game, Kaya held the ball more and forced many shot attempts backed by their disciplined defense against the country’s Under-23 national team.

Robert Lopez Mendy started the Kaya goal fest in the 19th minute, off a fantastic ball passing between the Senegalese striker and team captain Jovin Bedic in the left flank.

Four minutes later, Carlyle Mitchell doubled Kaya’s lead with an unchallenged header off a pass near the left corner.

Mendy scored his second goal of the match in the 29th minute, as he received a pass from Daizo Horikoshi and did a well-timed crossover move against the ADT defender to complete the strike.

In the second half, the Yu Hoshide-mentored Iloilo football club continued to dominate the ball and force the issue inside their goal box to increase their advantage.

The final statement of Kaya came in the 80th minute with Horikoshi converting a close range goal off a running counter attack.

Kaya finished with a total of 27 shots in the game, compared to ADT’s seven. Out of their total shots, 14 were on target.

“All of the three games we have played, we scored only one goal. So, we have an intention to come here and score many goals as much as we can. I think the team played good and showed good character and good quality of football,” Mendy said.

Kaya-Iloilo will be back on the pitch on May 2 against Stallion Laguna while ADT will next battle Maharlika Manila on Monday.
