Oil spill monitored in Cebu

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 15) — Traces of oil spill from a half-submerged vessel in Consuelo Port in Camotes, Cebu is continually being inspected and monitored, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Central Visayas reported Thursday.

MV Mika Mari 1 was battered by big waves and strong winds caused by typhoon Agaton on Sunday while the vessel was moored at the port, causing it to be half-submerged and listed on its left side, the incident report said.

A total of 14 crew members abandoned the vessel owned by Jomalia Shipping Lines before it went down, it also said.

There were no passengers on board, it added.

However, 5,400 liters of the automotive diesel remained onboard.

No injury or casualty was reported.
