Metro Manila, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) has reported a total of 188 cases of firecracker-related injuries ahead of 2025 – more than double the number recorded year-on-year.
The agency said the cases from Dec. 22 to Dec. 31 were higher than the 124 firecracker victims in the same period last year.
Over 150 patients were aged 19 years old and below.
“Bantayan ang mga anak at ibang kabataan na iwasan ang paggamit ng paputok,” the DOH said.

More than 70% or 136 cases were due to illegal fireworks such as boga, 5-star, and piccolo, the DOH said.
Data also showed the majority of the victims were males, with 172 victims.
On Saturday, the DOH reported that a senior citizen died due to a firecracker explosion.
The agency reiterated its reminder to use alternative noise-makers in welcoming the new year.
