Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 31) — The Department of Justice (DOJ) will conduct an investigation into the television interview of retired Major General Jovito Palparan, Jr., who is currently detained at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Thursday.
“[U]sec [D]eo will conduct an investigation tomorrow,” the secretary told reporters, referring to Justice Undersecretary Deo Marco.
Guevarra added that he already received information that the court who convicted Palparan did not receive a request for permission for a media interview.
Palparan appeared on the SMNI News channel on Wednesday wearing the signature NBP orange uniform for inmates. He was asked details of the kidnapping case that put him behind bars.
The retired general was found guilty for the kidnapping and serious illegal detention of two students of the University of the Philippines in 2006. He has been incarcerated at the NBP since 2018 while his victims remain missing to this day.
