Phivolcs: No tsunami threat in PH after strong earthquake struck Taiwan

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 23) — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology announced there is no tsunami threat in the country after a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Taiwan early Wednesday.

Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 1:41 a.m. and had a depth of 15 kilometers.

The United States Geological Survey said the earthquake occurred south of Hualien City in Taiwan and its magnitude was initially reported as 6.9.

Taiwanese authorities said no major incidents were recorded as of Wednesday morning.
