PVL: Petro Gazz outduels BaliPure in four sets

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 17) – The Petro Gazz Angels chalked up a four-set victory against the BaliPure Purest Water Defenders to open their 2022 PVL Open Conference campaign on a winning note on Thursday at the Paco Arena.

MJ Phillips, Remy Palma, and Gretchel Soltones each chipped in 12 points to hand their new coach Jerry Yee a winning debut for the Angels, 25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21.

Petro Gazz imposed their will in the first two sets of the match through relentless attacks and excellent defense, forcing errors from the Purest Water Defenders.

The third set saw a momentum reversal with BaliPure mainstays Janine Marciano and Gen Casugod leading the offensive run for a close win to force a fourth frame.

In the fourth set, the Angels relied on veteran spiker Aiza Maizo-Pontillas on the offensive end and capitalized on the faulty errors of their opponents to register the victory.

Pontillas finished with 10 markers, while Nicole Tiamzon added nine points for the Angels.

Petro Gazz and BaliPure are part of the conference’s Pool B, together with 2021 PVL Open Conference runner-up Creamline Cool Smashers and the PLDT High Speed Hitters.
