Lacson, Sotto formally begin campaign: We will not fail you

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 8) — The tandem of Senator Ping Lacson and Senate President Tito Sotto kicked off their campaign in Imus, Cavite on Tuesday – both promising to continue their brand of public service: untainted by corruption.

Lacson again stressed the decades of public service between him and Sotto, and in all those years they have never once accepted a bribe.

He urged the public to choose wisely come the May polls and avoid voting thieves into office.

[Translation: Come May 9, we are not forcing you to choose us, but choose wisely. Because all of us will suffer. We will suffer for six years if we make a mistake.]

Lacson vowed a better life would come to all Filipinos as he and his running mate would work to fix the government.

Kapag ako pinagpala na maglingkod, hinding hindi ko kayo ipapahiya. Hinding hindi ko kayo bibiguin.”

[Translation: If I will be chosen to serve, I will not embarrass you. I will never fail you.]

Sotto, meanwhile, asked for the public’s trust.

Ang kailangan, sa paniniwala namin, ay kailangan ibalik ang tiwala ng ating mga kababayan sa pamumuno ng bansa,” he said.

[Translation: We believe that people should trust government leadership again.]

At an earlier event, Sotto said he and Lacson are ready to take on the roles of the country’s top elected officials.

“As early as the day we decided to run, we were prepared mentally and physically,” he told reporters at a briefing before the proclamation rally.
