Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 16) — San Juan City may be declared cleared of illegal drugs come January 2023, Mayor Francis Zamora said on Thursday.
Zamora revealed that all 21 barangays in the local government unit have been declared drug-free as of Wednesday afternoon.
“As of yesterday, after lunch, the last three barangays have been provisionally drug-cleared, meaning we just have to submit some documents, some certifications by January,” the mayor told CNN Philippines’ The Final Word.
“If PDEA will appreciate these submissions, possibly by January, we will be a drug-cleared city,” he said.
The mayor added he is supporting the administration’s BIDA (Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan) program against prohibited drugs as it has a “holistic” approach.
The government formally launched its new anti-drug campaign in November seeking to shift focus to demand reduction and rehabilitation in communities.
