UAAP: La Salle shocks streaking UP to boost Final Four bid

Kevin Quiambao showed why he’s a highly touted rookie for La Salle as he dropped 18 points (13 in the fourth quarter) and nine rebounds.

UP didn’t back down even if La Salle looked like it was on its way to the win, leading by as much as 10 points with a little over a minute left in the final period.

Two La Salle turnovers opened the door for UP to make a run, courtesy of Zavier Lucero and JD Cagulangan’s triples, to pull the Diliman-based squad within two, 80-78, before Quiambao converted two free throws to secure the victory.

La Salle is now tied with Adamson University at fourth place with a 5-6 win-loss slate, while UP absorbed its second defeat in 12 outings.

Mark Nonoy delivered a stellar performance for La Salle with 15 points and three rebounds, while CJ Austria chipped in 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Lucero had a team-high 15 points and six rebounds, while Carl Tamayo tallied 14 points and seven rebounds for UP.

La Salle will next battle National University, while UP will face the University of Santo Tomas on Nov. 23 at the MOA Arena

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 20) — The De La Salle University sent the University of the Philippines (UP) crashing back to earth with a crucial 82-80 victory in UAAP Season 85 Sunday at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.
