Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 15) — Infectious disease specialist Dr. Eric Tayag has been appointed as undersecretary of the Department of Health (DOH).
He confirmed this to CNN Philippines on Tuesday but did not give details.
Malacañang has not yet released information on his appointment.
He also served as DOH assistant secretary during the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has yet to appoint a health secretary nearly five months into his term.
Tayag’s most recent position at the DOH was director of Knowledge Management and Information Technology Service.
In a media forum, DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said the agency received the transmittal of his appointment on Monday.
“We are still scheduling [his oath taking] so he has not assumed his position yet,” Vergeire said.
“Pinag-uusapan pa ngayon ng aming mga officials kung saan namin siya appropriately, based on his capacity, maia-assign para mas makatulong sa aming kagawaran,” she added.
