DOT exceeds foreign visitors target for 2022

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 19) — The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Tuesday announced that it breached its 1.7 million target for foreign visitors in the country.

In her remarks during the Philippine Tourism Industry Reception, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said the country recorded 1,767,791 foreign visitors’ arrivals as of Oct. 17, “exceeding the 1.7 million visitors for 2022 projected by the DOT prior to June 30.”

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. earlier expressed confidence in the DOT’s plans to revive tourism in the country, calling the industry a driver for transformation.

Marcos also bared plans to develop existing and new resort areas to encourage people to travel. He said the government should do its part to promote these places.
