Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 4) — The House of Representatives is currently under lockdown due to the threat of Omicron variant, House Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza said on Tuesday.

“We are currently under lockdown to prevent the spread of the Omicron variant to ensure the safety of our members and House secretariat and employees,” he said in a message. “We will resume operations next week.”

Meanwhile, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said there is no need for now to place the Senate on lockdown, but a scheduled hearing tomorrow was suspended.

“Very few personnel in the Senate since Christmas. No reports (of infection among personnel) so far,” Sotto said in a message.

Both chambers of Congress are currently on break. Sessions will resume on January 17.

Metro Manila is currently under a stricter Alert Level 3 due to the spike in COVID-19 cases and the threat of Omicron variant.
