Metro Manila, Philippines — The Catanduanes Grid shut down on Saturday, Nov. 16 ahead of the possible landfall of Super Typhoon Pepito.

According to the First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, the shut down will give personnel of the Sunwest Water and Electric Company and the National Power Corporation time to secure power plant units and substations.

The shutdown was scheduled to begin on or before 2 p.m.

As early as 1 p.m., technical operations in the towns of Virac, Bato, San Miguel, Baras, Gigmoto, and San Andres were suspended to ensure the safety of lineworkers.

Based on the state weather bureau’s forecast, Pepito will cross the Luzon landmass.
