Metro Manila, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental spewed gas for 19 minutes on Friday, Nov. 1, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
Phivolcs said gray ash was released from the summit crater between 7:20 a.m. to 7:39 a.m.
The event resulted in plumes, a mixture of volcanic particles and gas, that rose 800 meters. It drifted northwest-west.
Phivolcs said it observed increased activity at Kanlaon Volcano after it recorded 84 volcanic earthquakes, releasing about 5,000 tons of sulfur dioxide, on Oct. 31.
The volcano’s edifice is inflated, Phivolcs noted.
Alert Level 2, moderate level of volcanic unrest, remains hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano.
