
Metro Manila, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak after fending off the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 79-70, in UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Nic Cabanero led the Growling Tigers with 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
With the victory, UST strengthened its hold of the No. 4 spot with a 5-6 win-loss slate.
The Tamaraws, meanwhile, are in a three-way tie with the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and Adamson University Soaring Falcons at fifth place with an identical 3-7 win-loss record.
Forthsky Padrigao finished with 14 points and five rebounds, while Kyle Paranada scored all of his 13 points in the second half for the Growling Tigers.
Mo Tounkara, who came back from a one-game suspension, added 11 points and 12 rebounds for UST.
Veejay Pre showed the way for FEU with a game-high 31 points and 14 rebounds.
The Growling Tigers will next tackle the National University Bulldogs on Nov. 6 at the MOA Arena, while the Tamaraws face the University of the East Red Warriors on Nov. 3 at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.
