Metro Manila, Philippines — The TNT Tropang Giga leaned on a hot start to beat Barangay Ginebra, 104-88, in Game 1 of the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup Finals on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 19 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists for the Tropang Giga.
TNT went on a 19-4 run in the early stretch of the contest, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
Ginebra, the league leader in three-point shooting percentage, had a terrible night making shots from the outside, making only two treys on 21 attempts.
It was a collective effort for the Tropang Giga on both ends of the floor as four other players finished in double figures.
Rey Nambatac chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds, while JP Erram added 15 points for TNT.
Jayson Castro and RR Pogoy also contributed 14 points and 12 points for the Tropang Giga, respectively.
Justin Brownlee led Ginebra with 23 markers, seven boards, and six dimes.
Game 2 of the finals is slated on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
