Metro Manila, Philippines — Air assets from Singapore and Malaysia have arrived in the Philippines for response efforts after the devastation caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

Singapore Air Force’s cargo aircraft C-130 and Royal Malaysian Air Force’s transport helicopter Eurocopter EC725 arrived at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The Philippine Air Force said the aircrafts will “play a crucial role in bolstering” its Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response operations in Kristine-affected areas.

Earlier, Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Romeo Brawner said relief goods may be airlifted using standby military aircraft as roads were submerged in floods.

Brawner said the United States said it is ready to send an aircraft through Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement sites.

Multinational coordinating centers, Brawner said, may be established if other nations would also send assistance.

Several parts of the country, especially the Bicol Region, suffered widespread flooding brought by Kristine’s rains.
