Metro Manila, Philippines — Barangay Ginebra eliminated the San Miguel Beermen in a thrilling 102-99 victory in Game 6 of the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup semifinals on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Maverick Ahanmisi delivered his finest performance for Ginebra, putting up a team-high 25 points.
Justin Brownlee, a three-time PBA Best Import, sank a clutch triple down the stretch in the final frame to keep Ginebra’s head above water as the Beermen tried to steal the win at the last possession.
“It took every little ounce of whatever we had left to win tonight,” Ginebra head coach Tim Cone said in a post-game press conference.
Brownlee finished with 21 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists, while Japeth Aguilar added 20 points and six rebounds for Ginebra.
RJ Abarrientos and Scottie Thompson were the other Ginebra players who scored in double figures with 16 points and 10 points, respectively.
EJ Anosike led San Miguel with 30 markers and nine boards.
Ginebra will battle defending conference champions TNT Tropang Giga in a best-of-seven finals duel starting on Oct. 27 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
