PH gives all-out cheers to Carlos Yulo’s golden performance

Metro Manila, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the entire country celebrated the historic win of gymnast Carlos Yulo, whose floor exercise routine earned him a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday.

His victory in the floor exercise final at the Bercy Arena is the country’s first medal in the Paris campaign.

“I am confident that it will not be the last,” Marcos wrote on his Facebook account. “Congratulations, Caloy! The entire country stands proud with you!”

Vice President Sara Duterte also saluted Yulo’s hard work as it produced the first Olympic gold medal of the Philippines in artistic gymnastics.

Lupang Hinirang was played once again in the quadrennial showpiece. Yulo is the second Filipino Olympic gold medalist after Hidilyn Diaz’s weightlifting victory at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In an Instagram post, Diaz shared that she is proud of the 24-year-old gymnast.

“I-enjoy mo ang bunga ng pinagpaguran mo,” she said. “At lagi mong ibabalik – sa Diyos at bayan dahil lahat ng tagumpay natin ay hindi pansarili.”

[Translation: Enjoy the fruits of your labor. Always give it back to God and country because our triumphs are not only for us.]

Lawmakers and some envoys to Manila also expressed pride in Yulo’s historic win.

Celebrities and other well-known personalities also flooded congratulatory comments on social media platforms, especially on International Gymnastics Federation’s accounts.

Filipino social media users also shared sentiments on the importance of Yulo’s win.

Brands also celebrated Yulo

Various brands joined the chorus of congratulations, honoring Yulo’s golden victory.

Among them, Purefoods TJ Hotdog posted on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter prominently displays the message “No. 1 Ka Sa Amin, Carlos Yulo!” against a dynamic backdrop, emphasizing the national pride and joy felt by Filipinos worldwide.

Nutri Chunks Dog Food also celebrated Carlos Yulo’s gold medal victory on Facebook and Instagram with a vibrant and eye-catching post featuring a congratulatory message that reads “PAWerful Performance! Congratulations!” emphasizing the play on words to tie in with the pet food brand.

For McDonald’s it means depicting Yulo’s triumphant stance and seamlessly integrated with the iconic Golden Arches of McDonald’s.

With the nation’s unwavering support behind him, Carlos Yulo’s future in gymnastics looks brighter than ever. His achievements serve as a reminder of the power of hard work, determination, and the incredible potential of Filipino athletes.

Another post also on Facebook showed an outline image of Yulo triumphantly standing on a golden yellow can of Star Corned Beef. It’s a striking visual that pays homage to Yulo’s outstanding achievement, symbolizing his golden victory.
