Gov’t confirms Guo’s sister a Chinese national

Metro Manila, Philippines – Shiela Guo, the sister of embattled former Mayor Alice Guo, is a Chinese national, the government confirmed on Friday, Aug. 23.

In a press briefing, the Immigration Bureau said Shiela has a Chinese passport valid until 2031.

“Comparative fingerprint analysis shows that the Chinese Zhang Mier and Shiela Leal Guo are one and the same person,” National Bureau of Investigation Director Jaime Santiago said.

Authorities said Shiela uses her Philippine passport for travel.

She and Cassandra Li Ong, Alice’s business associate, were caught in Indonesia and were returned to the Philippines.

Shiela is under investigations for violation of immigration laws, and Ong for obstruction of justice and violation of the Philippine Passport Act.

They were with Alice overseas but authorities have yet to arrest the dismissed public official.

Guo is facing an investigation for her alleged involvement in crimes linked to offshore gaming.
