EDSA-Kamuning flyover southbound lane reopens

Metro Manila, Philippines – Motorists can now use the southbound lane of the Kamuning flyover in Quezon City three months after it was closed for retrofitting, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Thursday, Aug. 15.

“The DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) was able to finish the flyover’s retrofitting works two months ahead of schedule intended to strengthen and prepare it for potential earthquakes, or the Big One,” MMDA acting Chairman Romando Artes was quoted as saying in a press release.

Repair works began in May that caused heavy traffic. The reopening was scheduled for October.

Around 24,000 four-wheeled vehicles and 23,000 motorcycles use the lane daily, according to the MMDA Traffic Engineering Center.

Meanwhile, the MMDA is also in talks with other agencies for the retrofitting of other flyovers in Metro Manila.

“Rehabilitation works are ongoing on the Magallanes flyover but only during the night, and no closures have been implemented so as to minimize inconvenience to vehicular traffic,” Artes said.

The MMDA also said the repair of the Guadalupe bridge in Makati City is still in the planning stage.
