7 dead, 2 injured from nonstop rains in Mindanao

Metro Manila, Philippines – Seven people were killed while two others were injured as monsoon rains battered Mindanao resulting in floods, disaster management officials said.

Of the seven deaths, four were from Zamboanga Peninsula, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Thursday, July 18.

The other three were from Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

One person was listed as missing.

Data showed the rains affected more than 480,000 people.

Government assistance has reached around P13.5 million and was extended to 4,258 families.

Meanwhile, damage to agriculture was estimated at P17.8 million. – DF
