Metro Manila, Philippines – It’s official: Mikey Williams is going to the Converge FiberXers, while Jordan Heading will shift to the TNT Tropang 5G.
The trade was approved by the PBA Commissioner’s Office on Monday.
Williams, a two-time PBA Finals Most Valuable Player, has not played in the pro league since the 2023 Governors’ Cup, where he steered the flagship team to the title.
Following their Governors’ Cup championship run, a contract dispute between TNT and Williams unfortunately led to a prolonged standoff as renegotiations failed every time.
The 33-year-old Williams last played for a Philippine squad in January for the Strong Group Athletics in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship, where he struggled for the most part of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Heading has yet to see action in the ongoing PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup due to a back injury.
The sharpshooting Heading is expected to boost the Tropang 5G’s grand slam bid in this conference, a rare feat that only five franchises have accomplished in PBA history.
TNT has been in dire need of an offensive spark at the guard position as Jayson Castro and Rey Nambatac are sidelined due to injuries.
The Tropang 5G are currently tied with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters at the fifth spot with a 5-3 win-loss record, while the FiberXers are in sixth place with a 6-4 slate.
