Metro Manila, Philippines – Teachers and poll workers will receive P1,000 more as compensation for serving in the midterm elections, Malacañang announced on Monday, May 19.
In a statement, Malacañang said the new honoraria rates for electoral board members are:
– P13,000 for the electoral board chairperson
– P12,000 poll for the clerk
– P12,000 for the board’s third member
– P9,000 for the support staff.
New rates for Department of Education volunteer staff members are:
– P12,000 for supervisors
– P9,000 for supervisors’ admin support staff
– P10,000 for supervisors’ tech support staff.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the release of around P758 million to cover the additional P1,000 honoraria.
This was on top of the P2,000 across-the-board hike in election allowance under the budget law.
Citing numbers from the Commission on Elections, the DBM said 758,549 workers were deployed to facilitate the May 12 elections.
During a committee hearing at the House of Representatives, Education Undersecretary Wilfredo Cabral said that as of May 16, over 30,000 poll workers have yet to be paid, while more than 250,000 have received compensation.
