Metro Manila, Philippines – The Tarlac police did not directly receive any donation from alleged Chinese spies, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday, March 4.
A Reuters report earlier said a group accused of espionage donated patrol vehicles to the Tarlac Police and motorbikes to the Manila Police.
PNP spokesperson PBGen Jean Fajardo, who is also the police director of Central Luzon, said she has instructed the provincial office to conduct a record check.
“Based on our record check ay wala pong donation directly tinanggap ang Tarlac Police Station galing sa sinasabing grupo na ‘yun,” she said in a press briefing.

Meanwhile, the local government of Manila confirmed that its police received a donation of 10 motorcycles from Qiaoxing Volunteer Group in 2022.
“The City Government is currently verifying details regarding the operational status of the donated motorcycles,” it said in a statement.
For the PNP as a whole, Fajardo asked the Directorate for Logistics about all the donations for the police force.
“Sinasabi nila (PNP Directorate for Logistics), there is no record that would indicate na may na-receive ang PNP, any of its unit, directly doon sa sinasabing grupo na kinaaaniban ‘di umano nitong mga alleged Chinese spies,” she added.

The PNP has been investigating all donations it has received, not just from alleged Chinese spies, following the order of its chief PGen Rommel Marbil.
