Metro Manila, Philippines – Ballot printing for the May midterm polls is now at 69 percent, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia said on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
Out of the 72 million ballots needed for the polls, 48.5 million have been printed.
In the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum, Garcia was asked if there were printed ballots that were rejected.
“Not true,” the poll official replied.
Last month, the Comelec stopped its ballot printing after the Supreme Court issued temporary restraining orders (TRO) which prohibited the commission from disqualifying, declaring as nuisance candidates, canceling a certificate of candidacy, and ordering the commission to accept a candidacy.
Acknowledging the TROs, the Comelec destroyed about six million ballots they already printed worth P132 million.
The poll body resumed its ballot printing on Jan. 27 and is still targeting to finish it by April 14.
