Metro Manila, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) warned the public on Saturday about a false social media post on needles supposedly contaminated by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) being used for blood sugar tests.

This stemmed from an online claim alleging that individuals posing as members of the Faculty of Medicine were visiting homes to conduct blood tests.

“Iyan kasi ang pinakamadaling paraan para ma-inject nila sa tao ang nakakamatay na AIDS virus,” the post said in a screenshot shared by the DOH.

[Translation: That’s the easiest way to infect people with the deadly AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) virus]

“The Philippine National Police has also debunked this message, confirming that it is a scare tactic with no factual basis,” DOH said in a statement.

The agency reminded the public not to share unverified information that may cause unnecessary harm.
