
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 29) — Softball powerhouse Japan flexed its dominance in the field after outlasting the RP Blu Girls, 9-2, during the 19th Asian Games softball Super Rounds kick off in Hangzhou, China on Friday.
The Philippine squad lost its slot in the gold medal match but is still in contention for a bronze medal finish against the loser of the China-Chinese Taipei Super Round match happening later in the day.
Japan opened with an early 3-0 lead with Kanna Kudo’s run-batted-in and Ayane Nakagawa’s 2 RBI center fly.
The Blu Girls tried to close the gap in the second inning but fell short after only Skylynne Ellazar and Alaiza Talisiks’ runs to home base.
Japan converted two more runs in the fifth inning, courtesy of Yui Nakamizo and Yui Sakamoto’s back-to-back flyers.
The East Asian team sealed its victory with a commanding 4-0 sixth, scoring a 3 RBI with Nakagawa’s home run hit followed by Haruka Agatsuma’s run.
Japan remains undefeated and advances to the finals with a 4-0 win-loss slate while the Blu Girls stand at 2-2.
