Magnitude 6.6 earthquake hits Balut Island in Davao Occidental

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 26) — A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Balut Island in Davao Occidental on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the tremor of tectonic origin hit 434 kilometers east of Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani at 9:39 a.m. It had a depth of 122 km.

While there is no expected damage and tsunami threat, state seismologists warned of possible aftershocks.
