DOJ seeks telcos aid after 28K registered SIM found in Pasay POGO hub

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 6) – Authorities recovered 28,000 registered SIM (subscriber identity module) in the raid of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Pasay City on Aug. 2, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Monday, noting that those involved could be the first to face cases under the SIM Registration Law.

“We’re looking at the activation of the SIM Registration Law on how these SIM cards will be used and how the law will operate as to the telcos,” Remulla told reporters.

“We will ask them [telcos] to help us in our case build-up as we examine the records and examine the equipment that we found and the evidence that we found,” he added.

Remulla also said employees of the POGO, including names under the registered SIM, may face charges for crimes such as spoofing and misinterpretation.

Over 650 employees we reportedly apprehended by authorities in the POGO hub for allegedly engaging in love scam and cryptocurrency scam operations.
