Locsin was the head of the Department of Foreign Affairs during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Prior to serving as the country’s top diplomat, he also became the Philippine ambassador to the United Nations.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 16) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Philippine ambassador to the United Kingdom and former Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. as a special representative to China, Malacañang announced on Wednesday.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Locsin will now serve as Special Envoy of the President to the People’s Republic of China for Special Concerns.

Last year, Marcos appointed Locsin as ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. This role is concurrent with his new position, PCO Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil confirmed.
