Jordan Clarkson commits to play for Gilas at FIBA World Cup, says SBP

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 25) — The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has secured the commitment of Jordan Clarkson for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

SBP president Al Panlilio made the announcement Tuesday, adding that the NBA star guard is joining the national team two weeks from now.

“Jordan Clarkson has committed to play for Gilas. He is coming in on Aug. 6,” he said.

The 31-year-old recently signed a contract extension with the Utah Jazz.

Clarkson suited up for two games as a naturalized player for Gilas in the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers, averaging 25 points (45% shooting from the field), 6.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds.

The Philippines is bracketed in Group A with Dominican Republic, Angola, and Italy.

Gilas’ first match will be played on Aug. 25 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, while the next two games will be at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
