DOF puts up Maharlika fund microsite

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 21) — The Department of Finance (DOF) has launched a microsite for the controversial Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF), following its signing into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

The Presidential Communications Office announced the creation of the microsite on Wednesday night.

The microsite, which can be accessed in this link: https://maharlika.dof.gov.ph/, features salient parts of the law, a joint statement by the government’s economic managers, and other related information.

Marcos signed Republic Act 11954 to establish the country’s first sovereign wealth fund on Tuesday despite warnings from some economists and lawmakers that it may put the Philippine economy at risk.

In a Social Weather Stations survey conducted in March but released in July, only 20% of respondents believe they were sufficiently informed about the MIF.

On the other hand, 22% said they have little knowledge about the fund, while the majority or 47% expressed they have almost or no knowledge about it at all.

Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno earlier said he was open to holding an “in-depth” discussion on the MIF to address this.

“Mabuti naman na ina-admit na di nila maintindihan. Mahirap siya intindihin [It’s good they admitted that they don’t understand it. It is hard to understand]. I suggest now that it’s available, you read it,” he told reporters.
