Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 29) – A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Burgos town in Surigao del Norte on Thursday evening, state seismologists reported.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor occurred at 7:30 p.m.
It warned of aftershocks but noted that damage was not likely.
The Phivolcs advisory showed that the tremor had a depth of five kilometers and was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by movement in the Earth’s crust.
