Obstacle racers Precious Cabuya, Mark Rodelas get 2 gold in SEA Games 2023

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 6) — Precious Cabuya and Mark Rodelas won two gold medals for the Philippines in the individual obstacle races of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.

The crowd at Chroy Changvar Convention Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia saw an adrenaline-pumped all-Filipino final on Saturday morning delivering gold and silver to the Philippine bag.

Cabuya clocked 32.73 seconds in the 100-meter course in the women’s category to shatter her own world record of 33.12 seconds in the eliminations. Fellow Filipina Kaizen dela Serna finished at 35.52 seconds, while Indonesia’s Anggun Yolanda Samsul Hadi finished with 39.598 to win the bronze.

In the men’s individual race, Rodelas completed the course with 25.19 seconds while Kevin Pascua closed his time at 26.81 seconds to settle for a silver. Malaysia’s Yoong Wei Thing got the bronze with 28.234.

Rodelas set a world record of 25.09 seconds during the eliminations.

Cabuya and Rodelas are the third and fourth gold medalists of Team Philippines in this year’s SEA Games.

Kaila Napolis, who competed in the women’s jiu-jitsu, and Angel Derla, who played in the kun bokator event, snagged the first and second gold for the country.
