Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 21) — Moonbin of K-pop boy band Astro was found dead in his home, Korean entertainment news outlet Soompi announced Thursday morning.
According to the report citing South Korean police, the 25-year-old singer was found dead by his manager in his home in Seoul’s Gangnam district past 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The report said authorities are currently discussing the possibility of an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Entertainment company Fantagio released a statement on the young pop-star’s death, asking fans to refrain from spreading and believing “speculative or malicious reports.”
“First, we apologize for having to convey this sorrowful and heartbreaking news. On April 19, ASTRO member Moonbin suddenly left us and has now become a star in the sky,” Fantagio wrote in Korean.
“Although it cannot compare to the grief of the bereaved family that had to part with their beloved son and brother, his fellow artists and the staff here at Fantagio, who have been together with him for a long time, are also deeply mourning the departed amidst tremendous shock and sorrow,” it added.
Moonbin debuted as a member of Astro with Jinjin, MJ, Cha Eun-woo, Sanha, and Rocky in 2016.
He recently performed as part of the Astro sub-unit Moonbin & Sanha in the Philippines and held a fan concert late March.
K-pop girl group Billlie will cancel or postpone its scheduled activities this week following the death of Moonbin, its management Mystic Story announced. His only sibling, Sua, is a member of Billlie.
