Miles Ocampo says she had surgery due to thyroid problem

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 15) — Filipino actress Miles Ocampo on Friday revealed she has undergone surgery to remove her thyroid glands immediately after being diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma.

On her Instagram account, Ocampo, 25, opened up that she has not felt her “normal self” since late last year.

“Waking up in the middle of the night because I can’t breathe, I get tired so easily, so frustrated with my weight gain, para akong palaging hapong-hapo and sinasakal, [Translation: I feel like I’m always suffocating]” the “Eat Bulaga” host said.

Several tests, ultrasound, and biopsy confirmed that she had a Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma — the most common type of thyroid cancer.

“I had to undergo Thyroidectomy surgery to remove my thyroid glands,” Ocampo said. “It all happened in an instant.”

Ocampo expressed gratitude to her doctors, family, partner, and management who have always been there from the start of her checkups to up until her recovery.

“To my family: mama, papa, kuya, chochoy for checking on me, thank you making sure I am not alone during those times, Mahal ko po kayo,” she said.

“To my Luiz, I couldn’t have done any of this without you,” she added. “Thank you for encouraging me to face my fears with doctors and hospital, to prioritize myself and to love myself. Thank you for being my strongest support.”

A month after her operation, Ocampo said she is now embracing her journey.

“Sending my love to everyone. Love and prioritize yourself,” the actress said.

She also urged the public not to body-shame regardless if the person has a medical condition or not.

Ocampo recently earned acclaim for her sterling guest performance at the action-drama series “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” topbilled by Coco Martin and Lovi Poe.
