BI launches Tiktok account to warn public vs job scams

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 1) – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has launched its Tiktok account to spread awareness against job syndicates offered online.

“These syndicates are using these new platforms in recruiting, hence we believe that we need to use the same channels to reach out to the younger audiences to remind them not to fall victim to these scams,” the BI said in a statement.

The agency also said it received reports that cryptocurrency scammers offer jobs abroad through Tiktok, Facebook and other messaging and social media apps.

The BI earlier reported that eight Filipinos were lured to work for crypto-syndicates in Cambodia.

On Feb. 22, it said young professionals who live in urban areas and have a travel history are usually the ones who are victimized by human trafficking syndicates.

“They are offered to work in BPOs (Business Process Outsourcing), mga call centers. Inanalok sila ng malalaking sahod, magagandang incentives only to find out that this is a crypto scam,” Immigration bureau spokesperson Dana Sandoval said during the Laging Hana briefing.
