
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 24) — Carmelo Anthony has been named the latest global ambassador for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup co-hosted by the Philippines.
The 38-year-old was formally introduced Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. He joins Spain’s Pau Gasol and Argentina’s Luis Scola as faces of the global showpiece happening from Aug. 25 to Sept. 10.
Anthony arrived in Manila on Wednesday and was spotted at the Rizal Monument in Luneta and dining in a restaurant in Intramuros.
He was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 2003 and is one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. He played for the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.
Anthony is also one of the most decorated Team USA players ever, winning three Olympic gold medals and one bronze.
He is expected to witness the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers match between Gilas Pilipinas and Lebanon Friday night at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
